The region of Jiangnan (China), located along the lower reaches of the Yangtze River, often brings to mind Hangzhou, with its Binjiang District standing out as a memorable highlight for visitors.

This sentiment resonated with many sports officials, athletes, and spectators who attended the 19th Asian Games in Zhejiang Province's vibrant capital.

Binjiang District, situated near the Qiantang River, gained global recognition during the Games for its role as the host area of key venues. The district showcased its modern charm through the stunning opening and closing ceremonies and its seamless blend of advanced technology and thoughtful services. Attendees experienced the essence of a dynamic Jiangnan city within the digital era.

A Technological Powerhouse

During the Games, a robotic assistant designed to transport discus on the field captivated audiences and international media. This innovation was created by Unitree Robotics, one of the many high-tech companies based in Binjiang. The district, part of the Hangzhou National High-tech Industrial Development Zone, has become a hub of technological advancements, contributing significantly to the city’s economy. Despite covering only 0.43% of Hangzhou’s area, it generates over 12% of the city’s GDP.

Binjiang’s commitment to innovation extends into the future with plans for the Jiangnan Sci-Tech Center. Spanning 37 square kilometers on the Qiantang River’s southern bank, the center will serve as a leading hub for scientific research and technology development. Anchored by prestigious institutions like Baima Lake Laboratory and Zhejiang Intelligent Sensing Technology Innovation Center, this ecosystem aims to elevate the region as a global leader in science and technology.

A Magnet for Global Investment

Binjiang’s appeal is further amplified by its open and competitive investment environment. In October, Leapmotor, a new energy vehicle company based in the district, entered into a strategic collaboration with a multinational group, resulting in a significant investment. This reflects Binjiang’s emphasis on fostering international cooperation and advancing digital trade.

The Zhejiang Pilot Free Trade Zone in Binjiang has seen remarkable growth, with over 18,000 firms established in the past three years. Its achievements include the use of foreign capital exceeding 3 billion USD and foreign trade surpassing 220 billion yuan.

A Thriving Urban Lifestyle

Beyond its economic and technological successes, Binjiang offers an exceptional living environment. Iconic landmarks such as the "Big Lotus" and "Little Lotus" stadiums have become symbols of the city’s vibrant sports and cultural scene. These venues, alongside the "Little White Bowl" gymnasium, now serve as leisure destinations for residents to enjoy recreational and cultural activities.

Binjiang also highlights its cultural heritage and innovation through attractions like Baima Lake Ecological Creative City. This area is home to events and institutions celebrating animation, literature, and the creative arts. Visitors can also explore historic sites like Xixing Ancient Town and Changhe Old Street, blending the charm of Jiangnan traditions with a modern flair.

The Xingguang Industrial Community further enhances the district’s appeal by providing shared public services, education, and healthcare support for businesses and employees. Social activities, such as sports events, create a sense of belonging for young professionals and foster a forward-thinking community model.

A Vision for the Future

Binjiang’s success during the Asian Games reflects its broader ambitions for sustainable development and high-quality growth. With scenic landscapes, innovative policies, and a welcoming environment, the district continues to lead Hangzhou in its journey toward excellence in science, culture, and community life.
